Emily is a person-centred and approachable therapist who uses creative and holistic methods to offer individuals different perspectives on their sense of self. Her work encourages individuals to look inwards and consider their experiences and emotions, offering a safe space to explore and express. The therapeutic use of storytelling, writing, art making, movement and symbolism allows individuals to approach things from a distance; Emily is then there to provide guidance and support as emotions are eventually met face to face in one’s healing journey.
Before working with the Open Mind Space, Emily worked for the NHS on an inpatient mental health ward and has experience working with those with acute and complex mental health conditions: Bipolar, Schizophrenia, EUPD and also depression and anxiety. She has experience in working with those who have experienced trauma, and her creative and psychotherapeutic expertise allows for an integrative and trauma-informed approach where each client is wholly seen and heard.
She has worked closely with both neurotypical children who are struggling in a school setting, as well as children with autism – she is passionate about entering the world of the child so as to truly understand the need and emotion beneath their behaviours.
Finally, Emily has a passion for working with individuals who have Alzheimer’s or dementia, and providing support to their family/carers. The power of story, reminiscence, movement and music has been evident in Emily’s work in dementia assessment centres – she believes wholeheartedly that creative therapeutic methods can allow a client’s sense of self to be seen, felt and expressed, evidencing the truth that within everyone there is always a person with a story to tell.
Emily is available for in person sessions in Wokingham & London, and online sessions UK nationwide.
