Dramatherapy is a type of creative, arts-based therapy that uses story, drawing, writing, movement, role-play, voice, and imagination to support emotional expression, personal growth, and healing. It’s not about performance or being “good at drama”—it’s about using the tools of creativity to explore what’s going on inside, in a safe and supported way.
In a dramatherapy session, you might work with characters, symbols, or metaphor. You might move, speak, write, or simply reflect quietly. Every session is shaped around your needs and comfort level. It's a flexible and empowering approach that meets you wherever you are.
Dramatherapy can be helpful for people navigating anxiety, low mood, life transitions, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling disconnected. It offers a way to explore emotions that may be hard to put into words and opens up new pathways to insight, connection, and change.
At its heart, dramatherapy invites you to tell your story—on your terms—and to gently uncover the wisdom, strength, and creativity already within you.
Dramatherapy is for anyone looking for a different way to explore, express, and heal.
We work with children, young people, and adults from all walks of life—each with their own story, challenges, and hopes. Some people come to us navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or relationship difficulties. Others are seeking support for diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD. Bipolar or are simply feeling stuck or disconnected.
You don’t need to consider yourself “creative” or have any experience with drama—just a willingness to explore. Dramatherapy offers a gentle, flexible approach that can be adapted to meet you wherever you are.
Because we have a diverse team of qualified therapists, we’re able to support a wide range of needs and experiences. Whether you're looking for individual sessions, group work, or creative support for your child, we’ll take the time to find the right fit for you.
This space is open to anyone who feels drawn to it—quiet or expressive, unsure or ready, curious or cautious. You’re welcome exactly as you are.
In the world of therapy, you might hear about “top-down” and “bottom-up” approaches. Both are valuable, and they simply refer to the different ways we can support healing and growth.
Top-down therapy starts with the mind. It focuses on thoughts, logic, and talking things through—like in traditional talk therapy or cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). It helps you understand patterns, reframe thinking, and make sense of your experiences.
Bottom-up therapy, like dramatherapy, begins in the body. It recognises that emotions, memories, and trauma often live in our nervous system—not just our thoughts. Through movement, breath, voice, creative expression, and embodied experiences, bottom-up therapy helps you release, regulate, and process feelings in a way that talking alone sometimes can’t reach.
Many people find that bottom-up approaches feel more intuitive, especially when words are hard to find or emotions feel overwhelming. In dramatherapy, we often combine both—inviting the body and the mind to work together, gently and at your pace.
We’ve created a selection of gentle, creative exercises you can try at home—designed to help you pause, connect, and care for your emotional wellbeing in your own time.
